ABOUT ME
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta,
Derek has always had an interest in the creative arts. He took to music at a young age starting with piano lessons during elementary school through to high school and alto sax through junior and senior high school band classes. He now plays a variety of instruments including guitar, mandolin, banjo, and assorted percussion.

After finishing High School in 2009, he pursued his love of music by studying audio production at the University of Lethbridge for 2 years. It was while in Lethbridge that he also formed the band Jumping With Axes. The band continued to perform together when he and fellow founding members Peter and Vanessa moved back to Calgary in 2013, and they continue to play together whenever they get the chance.

In 2015, Derek applied and was accepted into the Radio, Television, and Broadcast News Program at SAIT Polytechnic. He chose to major in Radio, and his main focus was the production aspect of making commercials and other audio clips. However, after successfully graduating from the program in 2017 he felt that the industry wasn't the place for him.
